TITLE : INSTALLING PARADOX ON PC-LAN 1.30 EXTENDED EDITION
Assumptions: You are using the IBM PC LAN 1.30 extended
version.
Your network is installed and running.
You are authorized as a system administrator.
Users are registered on the network.
1. Start the network.
From the start-up screen, select Start the Network.
Login as the administrator (enter ADMIN).
From the Application menu, select DOS to exit to the DOS
prompt.
At the DOS prompt, enter CD\ to make the root directory your
current directory.
2. Run the install program (see Chapter 7, Network
Administrator's Guide).
Select network type 3 for IBM PC LAN. Your system files
directory should be a subdirectory of the shared
applications directory (e.g. c:\apps\paradox3). The
location of your PARADOX.NET file should be F:.
When you have completed the installation and exited the
install program, enter EXIT at the DOS prompt to return
to the network.
3. Add Paradox to the Application menu.
From the Application menu, select PCLP.
From the next menu, select Adminsrv.
From the next menu, select Manager.
From the next menu, select System Management Services.
4. Define two filesets (directories) that will be used by your
Paradox applications.
We recommend you create a fileset named paradox3 for the
Paradox system files directory (e.g. c:\apps\paradox3),
and that you create a fileset named pdoxdata for the
shared data directory (e.g. \pdoxdata).
From the Services menu, select Filesets.
From the next menu, select New Filesets Details.
Define the fileset for your Paradox system files directory
(e.g. c:\apps\paradox3). We recommend that you name
this fileset paradox3. Enter PARADOX3 and, in the next
screen, enter a description. Leave the Fileset Type to

INTERNAL, and press Enter.
Leave the SERVER ID set to the network default, and press
Enter.
Enter C for your Drive setting, and \APPS\PARADOX3 for your
Path To Fileset. Leave the Share Mode set to DYNAMIC,
and press Enter.
On the next screen, select the users who will have access to
this fileset. When you are finished, press Enter.
On the next screen, enter R to assign read-only rights to
your users.
Repeat this process to define the fileset for your Paradox
shared data directory (e.g. \pdoxdata). We recommend
that you name this fileset pdoxdata. To define this
fileset, follow the above procedure.
You should enter \PDOXDATA for your Path To Fileset option,
and U to assign update rights to your users. Once
complete, press ESC to return to the Services Menu.
5. Define the application to your network.
From the Services menu, select Applications.
From the next menu, select New Application Details.
For your APPLICATION ID, enter PARADOX3. On the following
screen, enter a brief description and, for the DOS
Command Line, enter PARADOX3. This refers to the
PARADOX3.EXE file executed when the user starts Paradox.
Set the Collection Parameters, Set Current Fileset, and
Additional Filesets to NO. Press Enter, then press ESC
until you return to the Services Menu.
6. Make the application available to your users.
From the Services menu, select Users.
From the next menu, select Maintain User Details.
Select your user.
From the next menu, select More.
From the next menu, select Application Selector.
From the next menu, select Change.
From the next menu, select Applications For Selector.
Select PARADOX3, then press Enter to save your work. Press
ESC until you return to the Services menu.
From the Services menu, select Filesets.
From the next menu, select Maintain Fileset Details.
Select the PARADOX3 fileset.
From the next menu, select User Access.

From the next menu, select Change.
From the next menu, select Change User Access.
Select a new user, then assign them read-only rights to the
PARADOX3 fileset by entering R.
Repeat these steps for each Paradox user to permit him or
her access to the Paradox System Files.
Repeat these steps also to permit each user to access the
shared data fileset PDOXDATA, assigning each user update
access by entering U.
7. Login as a user and make the Paradox application available
to yourself.
From the Application menu, select PCLP.
From the next menu, select Fileman.
From the next menu, select Change.
From the next menu, select Assign Fileset.
Select PARADOX3 and enter D: to assign logical drive D to
the system files fileset, then select PDOXDATA and enter
F: to assign logical drive F to the shared data
directory. When you are finished, press ESC until you
return to the Application menu.
8. Make the fileset automatically available to the user
whenever the user logs on to the network.
From the Application menu, select PCLP.
From the next menu, select Useradmn.
From the next menu, select More.
From the next menu, select Fileset Assignments.
From the next menu, select Change.
From the next menu, select Change Logon Fileset Assignments.
For the PARADOX3 fileset, enter D:. For the PDOXDATA
fileset, enter F:.
Repeat steps 7 and 8 for each Paradox user. Once complete,
log on to the network as each user to test your
installation.
